In loving memory of

Marie Greenfield Caplan
December 6, 1954 - May 7, 2021

On Friday, May 7, 2021, Marie Caplan passed away at the age of 66. She was a loving mother of six children, grandmother of five, sister, aunt, caretaker of cats & dogs, and friend to many. Marie was born on December 6, 1954 in Houston, Texas to Charlotte and David Greenfield, Sr. Marie was sister to Beth Wolff, David Greenfield, Jr, and the late Joan Sechler.

Marie was a proud 4th generation Texan and 3rd generation Houstonian. She attended Lamar High School where she met the love of her life, the late Dr. Steve Caplan. Marie graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from the University of Texas, where she was a member of the Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority. Marie and Steve married in Houston in 1975, before moving to Galveston so Steve could pursue his career in medicine. On the island, Marie loved her work in graphic design for local newspapers, restaurants, and other businesses. In the 1980's, Marie and Steve returned to Houston, where Marie began her successful career as a Texas Realtor. She applied her patience, understanding, and listening to assisting people find their homes. Marie loved the arts and enjoyed visits to the Menil Collection, particularly to see her favorites by René Magritte. She was an excellent cook, an avid gardener, and also was a member of the Houston Symphony League.

Marie was a joy to be around for those lucky enough to have the chance to know her. Marie was a devoted mother to Rachel, Seth, Grace, Benjamin, Rose, and Sam. She was a loving grandmother to Elijah, Leia, Andrew, Clare, and Daniel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society, the Houston SPCA, or the charity of your choice.

"I was saddened by the news of Marie's passing. She was a wonderful human being and I remember her with great love and affection. Marie was a very capable and helpful fellow agent. She will always be remembered as an exceptionally kind and caring and loving person. My strongest condolences for her family. My love and prayers for all who have suffered such a great loss.
