In loving memory of

Gloria Jean Meeker
October 8, 1950 - May 6, 2021

Gloria Jean Meeker, better known as Mom, Gma, G, GiGi, and Glo to those who loved her most, died on May 6, 2021 at the age of 70. She was surrounded by her loved ones until the end of her life, when she went to meet her Lord and Savior.
Gloria was born on October 8, 1950, in Wichita, Kansas to Orval Fick and Norma Jean Baker, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by two daughters, Angela Gallogly and Dana Wood, as well as a son in-law, Paul Gallogly. She was blessed with and is survived by thirteen grandchildren, Amber (Gallogly) Halsell, Courtney (Wood) Taylor, Kristyn Gallogly, Lindsey Gallogly, Lauren (Gallogly) Ray, Madison Wood, Michael Wood, Mallory Wood, Drew Wood, Jake Taylor, Travis Halsell, Stevie Ray, and Lexi Wood. She was also blessed with three beloved great-grandchildren, Ruby Halsell, Fisher Halsell, and Dylan Taylor.

She is survived by a brother, Lee Fick, and sister in-law, Phyllis Fick, a nephew, Wayne Fick, and a niece Amy Fick. She is also survived by a brother, Rob Fick, and a brother and sister in-law Robert and Elizabeth Workman.

Gloria was remembered as a bright light by all who new her. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and often said to those around her, "Let's just laugh." Her capacity for joy knew no limits, and she could lift others up in their times of greatest need.
"Glo" was a successful professional, spending 15 years working at Capital One in the Auto Finance Industry. Her focus was on Customer Service and the managing and LEADERSHIP of teams, and she excelled in these areas, being offered challenging roles in the "Office of the President" to assist customers that needed specialized attention and also receiving the prestigious "Chairman & President's Club" Award, which included a luxury trip to Amelia Island, Florida at the Ritz Carlton. Gloria was a mentor and leader both formally and informally to many.

Gloria was also talented when it came to crafts and hobbies. Over the years she created beautiful clothes for her children and grandchildren, crocheted lovely blankets, and painted ceramic keepsakes that still anchor the family's Christmas decorations each year. But she really found her favorite pastime in quilting. She created beautiful quilts for others as gifts and for herself, and of course, this hobby led to more happy friendships for Gloria through local quilt guilds. She had the joy of quilting with her daughters and her grandkids, and going to the quilt shows in town were some of their favorite outings together.

Gloria had friends that lasted a lifetime. She stayed in touch with friends that she made from her childhood years in Wichita to the years with her young family in Prairie Grove, Arkansas, to Dallas to Colorado Springs, and back to the Dallas area again. In Texas, she participated in sorority activities as well as quilt guild activities, doing charity work and being a great friend to all.
Most of all, Mom, G, Gma, GiGi, was the matriarch of her family. She was the generous and loving spirit, the heartbeat. She always had a plan, a gift, a hug, a way to support. She loved to play games. She was always THERE, as comforting as the sun in winter, to keep her family safe, well, and whole.

G will continue to knit the family together as she always has, through the memories that are cherished, through the quiet conversations that will continue, and through the great faith that GiGi showed the family, every day of her life. Her example is a gift to all of us. "Let's Just Laugh."

"I keep trying to figure out how to explain to people why it is so difficult to live in a world without my grandma. I could say she was like a best friend, a mentor, a confidante, a cheerleader...but that still does not cover it. She was a constant in my life. She never missed a big moment in my life. She never failed to check in on me when things were rough. I talked to her every day, and she brought so much love and joy to my life that now, it is difficult to understand how I am going to live with this gaping chasm in my spirit. I know that everyone who knew my grandma can understand this because she was a ?grandma? to everyone she met. She loved unconditionally, in a way that forgave flaws and misunderstandings, and I learned so much about how to treat people just by experiencing the way that she treated people. I will never stop missing her, but I think that?s a good thing. I pray that we all miss her, always, because that is a huge testament to what she has given each of us. "

"My beautiful grandmother, also known as G, was too phenomenal to describe in words. When I was eight years old, my third grade class had to write an essay. The prompt was, ?Who is the most influential person in your life??. My immediate thought was my grandmother. I sat in that class and wrote multiple pages about her influence on this world, and I gave her the essay the next time I saw her. Within this essay, I described how selfless she was, how uplifting she was, and how strong she was. Thirteen years later and all of those statements have stayed true to this day, and then some. As I?ve gotten older, I?ve been able to realize all that she has done for my family and myself, and I couldn?t be more grateful. I will never forget all of our wonderful times together. Since her passing, I have really reflected and realized how she has influenced all of her family. There are so many things that I see in my family that came from her, and that is truly a beautiful thing to see her legacy live on through each and every little mannerism. I can only hope that I have her strength, her kindness, and her grace one day. Every single individual that knew my beautiful G, is so lucky. I?m going to miss her laugh, her advice, and her love so much. I?ve always considered her to be an Earth angel, and now she is our actual angel. I know that you will still be here for all of our milestones, and I hope that I make you proud. I love you with my whole heart, and I hope you know how strong you are, how loved you are, and how missed you are. Next time we meet, be prepared for the biggest hug and the loudest laughs. "

"When I married into the Meeker family in 1978, the unanticipated bonus was gaining Gloria as a sister-in-law. What fun!! Always joyful, alway loving, with THE best hugs I had ever experienced! Over the course of the next four and a half decades, the crush of Liz and my busy careers were happily punctuated with memorable time with Gloria, her beautiful daughters and the continuing growing, wonderful family ( yes, that includes you, Stevie, as the most recent). So many wonderful memories from Christmases, to 50th anniversaries to exploring Yellowstone and Big Sky. You live on through all the lives you graced with you loving warmed. I am blessed to be your brother-in-law. "

"Having G as my only grandmother that I have known has been the biggest gift in my life. She filled me up with so much joy, laughter, and peace. She always knew the right words to say and gave the best advice. She has taught me to be selfless, what unconditional love is, and how to guide with a positive light. Every moment I ever spent with her was so special and she really embraced all of her family and friends for who they are, no matter what. As I will miss her every day for the rest of my life, I find peace knowing that she truly is never gone from me and will always live in my heart for ever. Your laugh will always play in my head and I can?t wait to hear it again. Thank you so much for everything you have taught, and the wisdom you have graced us with. I love you grams "

"When I think of Grandma, this first few things that pop into my mind are belly laughs, positivity, and a genuine, deep care for others. Grandma made everything fun.. car rides with her were never dull, she made the dollar store feel like Disney World and our family would always have the loudest cheering section at any event with the enthusiasm initiated by Grandma. Her common phrase, ?it?s going to be so fun?, elevated the excitement of whatever it was we would be doing. She was a light. Grandma was the most generous person I have ever met. She treated our very large family to countless outings and every Christmas each person would have a mound of presents (excellently wrapped) waiting for them. Even more importantly, though, she was generous with her time and love. She was selfless and it was apparent she was always thinking of what she could do for others. Her enthusiasm for life and time with loved ones was contagious.. and being with Grandma would always leave me uplifted. Grandma had a gift of elevating all those around her and making each person feel special, heard and important. What a privilege it was to learn from and be loved by such a truly inspirational woman. She may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts. Her strong legacy of big love, perseverance, and showing kindness to all will be everlasting for our family. "

"Anyone who was lucky enough to cross paths with my grandma was touched by her light. She was the most caring and genuinely good person I have ever known. She was full of love and kindness for everyone, and she loved bigger than anyone I will ever meet. She was such a constant presence and force of support and love in our lives. Every choir or band concert, soccer game, any trial or hard time our G was right there. No matter how hard things were for her, she was there to lift us up and cheer us on in life. I take comfort knowing she will continue to be there with all of us, cheering us on and laughing with us. She will always be our light ? I love you forever G "

"G gave me another turn at having a grandmother. She loved me as her own and treated me with kindness and compassion. I believe we had a special connection built on a foundation of wacky and odd humor. The kind of humor that sometimes when overheard by others you could feel their eyes rolling from behind you. Ha! I will always remember that contagious, loud, over the top laugh. We loved to laugh. I will cherish all of the times that we laughed together. G was so giving and selfless. Always put others before herself. A true model of a great person. I will always remember our conversations while sitting in recliners at G's house when she let us stay for six months during a renovation of our own home. Looking back what a special time that was to better get to know G. I will miss you so much G but as I told you, I will see you again. I love you so much. It was such an honor and privilege to know you on Earth. I truly feel like I am a better person just from knowing you. I'm glad we got to laugh once more before you went to be with Jesus. "

"Everyone reading this will already know that my Grandma, Gloria, was the most wonderful person. She was truly one of the most kind, caring, beautiful people on Earth and everyone that knew her was blessed to have her in their life. There are not enough words to express how deeply I miss her, or how grateful I am to have been her granddaughter. When I was in high school we were driving home when typical Texas weather hit. Hail, wind, possibility of tornadoes... she told me, ?if we have to take shelter you just run, I?ll be fine. We are strong women.? Over the years that became our mantra. Every time something scary happened in my life, there was my G, holding my hand and telling me ?you are the strongest woman.? I promise to be that strong woman, because you taught me how G. And I promise to try to be that comfort for others, the way you always were. Thank you for being our G and GiGi. We love you forever ?"

She was genuinely one of my best friends and favorite people in the entire world and I will never stop missing her. I take comfort knowing she is finally free of pain and with her savior, Jesus. I will continually aspire to be as like her. I promise to live as she would want me to and to never stop laughing and loving. "I remember when Ang and I were first married how I would ask mom if I could get something out of the fridge like a soda or something and she would say you are family you don?t have to ask for anything! I soon found out she was that way with everyone. She loved everyone and never had a bad thing to say about others!"
