THOMAS G. BARNARD
MUSCATINE, Iowa - Thomas Gochee Barnard, 85, of Muscatine, passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2021, surrounded by his children at home.

A private family service will be held. Chaplain Kenneth Golden will officiate. Burial will take place in the soldier's section in Greenwood Cemetery. Military services will be conducted by the Honor Guard of Muscatine City Inc. and the United States Air Force. Pallbearers will be John T. Barnard, Joe Barnard, John A. Barnard, Zachary Lyon, Jason Burkett, and Seth Carlisle. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.


Thomas was born on February 2, 1936, in Muscatine, the son of John Harold and Katheryn Louise Seevers Barnard. He married Delilah Benninger. They later divorced and remained friends.

Thomas enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 18 and served for eight years serving in the Korean War as a sentry. He later worked at John Deere and then GPC. Thomas was a commercial fisherman. He enjoyed flying his model airplanes and duck hunting.

Thomas is survived by his five children, John T. Barnard, Teresa Lyon, Michelle Carlisle, Joe Barnard and his wife, Shantel, and Deborah Murillo and her husband, Art, all of Muscatine; nine grandchildren, Amy Peiffer, John A. Barnard, Jessica Lyon, Zachary Lyon, Brittany Nagel, Seth Carlisle, Gracie Barnard, Amanda Ramirez, and Jason Burkett; and 20 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Delilah 'DeDe' Barnard; son-in-law, Jeff Lyon; and brother, John Seevers Barnard.
