Penny Weir Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, United Methodist Church, Tipton. Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Penny Jean Weir, 47, Tipton, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, after a courageous battle with cancer. The Rev. Paul Frederiksen will officiate. Burial will be at Tipton Masonic Cemetery, Tipton. Memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice Mrs. Weir was born Oct. 5, 1958, in Davenport, the daughter of Charles Duane and Janice Jean Holets Linn. She married James Iain Weir on Oct. 2, 2004, in Tipton. She graduated from Tipton High School in 1977 and received and associate of arts degree from A.I.B. College of business, Des Moines, in 1979. She was employed since 1984 at NCS Pearson and recently worked as the Help Desk administrator and had been a bookkeeper at Mac Equipment for four years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Tipton. She had a special pet named Luke. Survivors include her husband; her parents, Charles and Janice Linn of Tipton; a grandmother, Ruth M. Linn of Tipton; two sisters, Leanne K. Zearley and husband Jeff and Michelle R. Miles and husband Don, all of Tipton; three nephews, Nathan Shaull and wife Katie, Charlie Miles and Steven Miles, all of Tipton; a niece, Stephanie Shaull of Tipton; a great-niece and -nephew, Joseph and Kerilynn Battey; her father- and mother-in-law, William and Mary Weir of Irvine, Scotland; a brother-in-law, Robert Weir of England; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Clarence Linn and Lumir and Edith Holets.
