"It was only a couple weeks ago I thought I should call and invite her out again, see if she was fully vaccinated. It was just before COVID the last time we went for breakfast. She was a student just starting at MCC when we met, and I worked in the Success Center. She was kind, funny, totally honest and sincere about good things and bad in her life, took no gruff, and worked hard. We became friends lasting after she got her degree. I'm just hearing today, June 1, about her passing. I'm sad we didn't get together once more but happy and blessed for knowing her. I'm going to miss her. "

Ella May McTurk, 81 of Marshalltown, IA passed away Monday, May 17, 2021at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Cremation rights have been entrusted to Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown. Much gratitude and sincere appreciation to the good friends, Roy and Kathy Airey, along with Iowa Methodist Hospital Doctors and Nursing Staff, and Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown for such good and compassionate care. Contributions may be made at Iowa River Hospice in Ella May McTurk's honor. Graveside services will be held at a later date.
Ellie was born on November 3, 1939, to John and Beatrice (McReynolds) Tade. She received an Associate of General Studies Degree in December of 2017, at the age of 76, from Marshalltown Community College. She was a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Ella May enjoyed crocheting; completing crossword puzzles and playing a few computer games.
Ella May is survived by five children: Marcee, Lacy, Tana, Bart and Audra. She had 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Much later in life Ellie met the love of her life and married Gavin Anderson McTurk on July 23, 1980 in Elko, Nevada, which precedes her in death.
Lots of people touch you hearts, but few leave everlasting hand prints as she did with her friend, Janet. She is already missed terribly.
