Inez Short Services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Chapel, Omaha, Neb. There will be no visitation. Inez E. Short, 81, Iowa City, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006, at the Lone Tree Health Care Center, Lone Tree, after an extended illness. Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery. Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, Lone Tree, is handling the arrangements. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home. Mrs. Short was born Jan. 25, 1925, in Burlington Junction, Mo., the daughter of Leo Hamilton and Anna Gladys Walton Trueblood. She was raised by her mother and Bernard Francis Roche Sr. She married Richard Frank Short on Dec. 28, 1951, in Omaha, Neb. He preceded her in death in February 1983. She attended business school and then worked in customer service at J.C. Penney and Younkers in Cedar Rapids. She was a member of T.O.P.S. in Cedar Rapids and volunteered for the Rock and Read Program at many Cedar Rapids schools. She loved to travel with her husband, was an avid reader and also enjoyed needlework and music. Survivors include three daughters, Susan Gilbert and husband Brian of Iowa City, Teri Clark and husband Adam of Kingsport, Tenn. and Barbara Rife and husband John of Iowa City; a son, Steven Short and wife Connie of Solon; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Bernard Francis Roche Jr.; and a sister, Agnes Anne Wilwerding.
