In loving memory of

Filmore "Filly" Clifford Cohen
November 5, 1927 - May 24, 2021

Filmore "Filly" Cohen, 93, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021, in Houston, TX surrounded by his daughters. A native Houstonian, Filmore was born on November 5, 1927, to Joe and Pearl Cohen. After graduating from San Jacinto High School, he worked as a food broker.

In 1959, he met Maxine Adelson, of blessed memory, at a B'nai B'rith meeting, where it was love at first sight. They were married on December 24, 1961, the second to last ceremony ever held at the old Beth Yeshurun Synagogue on Southmore.

Filmore and Maxine owned Filly's Men's Formals, with locations throughout Houston, for nearly 40 years. He loved building relationships with his customers and was proud to have served Alan Shepperd, Howard Cosell, George H.W. Bush, Nolan Ryan, and more.

Family, religion, and community were a priority for Filmore. A regular attendee of Beth Yeshurun services in the Greenfield Chapel, he was honored as "Minyanaire of the Year" in 2015. He was a proud member and regular volunteer of the Missouri City Fire and Police Department Auxiliary. He was also President of the Village of Meyerland where he lived for nearly 8 years.

He is survived by his three daughters and their husbands, Nancy and David Cohen, Marci and Mark Kellner, and Debbie and Rick Levinton; eight grandchildren, Leigh, Benjamin, Annie, Bradley, Molly, Sophie, Maxey, and Brenna; and his brother, Gilbert.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Beth Yeshurun Post Oak. Donations may be made to Beth Yeshurun Greenfield Chapel Breakfast Fund www.bethyeshurun.org/payment.php
