Hugo W. Holst Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30,Gloria Dei Lutheran Church , Durant. Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, funeral home. WALCOTT, Iowa -- Hugo W. "Hooks" Holst, 94, of Walcott, died on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006 at his home in Walcott. Services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 30, at 10:30 a.m. at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Durant, officiated by the Rev. Nancy Hoelter. Casket bearers will be Mark Rathjen, Wil Rathjen, Brian Crawford, Scott Crawford, Angie Snell, Caran Crawford, Tiffany Jensen and Eve Rathjen. Visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 29, from 4-7 p.m. at the Bentley Funeral Home in Durant. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Musical selections will be provided by organist Sue Voss and vocalist Henry Bentley. Interment will take place at the Walcott Cemetery, Walcott. Memorial may be made to Durant Ambulance, the Walcott Fire Department or Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in his memory. Mr. Holst was born June 19, 1912, to Peter and Caroline Boltz Holst in Scott County. He married Elizabeth A. Grell on March 6, 1940, in Davenport. She preceded him in death on May 1, 2006. He farmed in Scott County retiring in 1975. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Durant, Walcott Lions Club, Walcott Community Club, the Walcott Day Committee, and the Scott County Farm Bureau, where he had served as a director. He also served 20 years on the Walcott Park Board. He enjoyed reading and current events. Above all he loved his family. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his daughters: Sandra and her husband Leo Rathjen of Durant, Marlene "Jo" and her husband Dale Mullen of Muscatine, and Betty Crawford of Valinda, Calif., six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Elizabeth, four sisters: Linda Krambeck, Edna Wulf, Mabel Wampfler and Elma Wuestenberg and two brothers: Rudy and Walter Holst.
