In loving memory of

Maxine R. Jeffrie
July 5, 1942 - November 15, 2020

Maxine R. Jeffrie is in peace with the Lord, Sunday, November 15th. She is survived by her daughter, Anne Marie Fleming; son-in-law, Robert S. Fleming; and granddaughter Clare Marie Fleming.

Maxine was born July 5, 1942, at the Lutheran Hospital in Hampton, Iowa, to Wilbert and Laurena Witte. She had one brother, Marvin Witte.

She attended country school in Mott Township and moved to Hampton schools in second grade. She graduated in 1960 from Hampton High School.

Maxine continued her education at State College of Iowa (University of Northern Iowa) in Cedar Falls. Here is where she met a group of wonderful friends, who call themselves the Round Robins. This group of friends has stayed connected throughout all these years by sending a chain letter about family and life updates and photos. The letters continue to this day! She received her BA in Elementary Education with a subject field in Art, on June 4, 1964.

While in high school she met her first and only love, her husband Howard. They dated throughout high school and college and were married on June 14, 1964. They made their home in St. Louis, Missouri.

Maxine taught kindergarten at Springdale School in Berkeley, Missouri, for 6 years. After having their daughter Anne in 1970, Maxine stayed home and kept the house in order. In 1988, she began teaching preschool at Hamilton Christian Church in Creve Coeur until 1999. She continued her love for children by teaching crafts, baking and playing with her only granddaughter Clare.

Her love for art was expressed through sewing, cross-stitching, and most of all card making. Everyone who knew Maxine would receive a beautiful hand stamped card for birthdays and various holidays throughout the year.

Howard and Maxine spent the retired part of their life traveling the world, watching Cardinal baseball and cooking together. They attended and were involved at St. Paul Lutheran church in Des Peres.

Maxine was a dear and caring friend to many. Her creative talent and smile will always be remembered.

Her final resting place will be in Hampton, Iowa, next to her husband Howard.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Missouri.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 12, 2021, at the Hampton Cemetery.
