Joan Shimeck
March 7, 1932 - June 10, 2021

Joan Shimeck, of Antigo, died Thursday, June 10, 2021, at Rosalia Gardens in Antigo. She was 89 years old. She was born on March 7, 1932, in Antigo, a daughter of Floyd and Hilma (Anderson) Fredrickson. She married Daniel Shimeck on August 4, 1954, at St. Wencel Catholic Church in Neva. He preceded her in death on September 29, 2011.

She was a graduate of Antigo High School with the class of 1950 and Langlade County Teachers College class of 1952. Joan taught grades one through eight at Springbrook Graded School in the town of Neva. She was beloved by her students and maintained contact with many throughout the years.

She was a longtime employee at Leffel's Supper Club.

Joan was a member of SS Mary and Hyacinth Catholic Church and volunteered at St. Hyacinth grade school as a substitute teacher, librarian and girl scout leader.

She was a member of Badgerland Classics and Custom Car Club. She enjoyed bowling and traveling including spending winters in Leesburg, Florida for over 20 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Jane Shimeck and Mike Wolfe, Lake Mills, Susan (Robert) Schuster, Pickerel; a son, Dennis (Donna) Shimeck, Rhinelander; five Grandchildren, Brien Heindl and fiancée Tasha, Leslie (Eric) Hansen, Sarah (Nick) Sinkler, Ashley Schuster and Chris Henry, Derek (Katie Judge) Shimeck; a great-grandchild, Jordan Hansen.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a son, David Shimeck; a brother, James Fredrickson.

The funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at 11 a.m. at St. Wencel Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Hoffmann officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the Bradley Funeral Home and 9 to 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. A parish wake service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday also at the funeral home.
