MUSCATINE, Iowa - Tirena M. Mendieta, 37, of Muscatine, passed away on Thursday, June 10, 2021, at UnityPoint Trinity-Muscatine.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, June 18, 2021, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Tirena Smith Mendieta Memorial Fund, which has been established for her husband and kids at the Family Credit Union in Muscatine. Tirena was born on November 17, 1983, in Muscatine, the daughter of Michael 'Mikey' G. and Cynthia S. Musgrove Smith. She married Raul V. Mendieta on December 13, 2005, in Muscatine.
Tirena provided childcare in her home and also delivered the Muscatine Journal to many families. She worried about everyone else first and took care of many, always puting them before herself. Tirena was a great wife, mother, daughter, and childcare provider. She never allowed anyone to go without a birthday or Christmas present, making sure they got something special. Tirena loved her black cat, Pancho, and anything purple. She enjoyed listening to country music, especially Reba McIntyre. Tirena collected angels and enjoyed shopping. She was very family oriented and most of all loved her family.
She is survived by her husband, Raul V. Mendieta of Muscatine; her children, Emilio Smith, Matthew Mendieta, Maria Mendieta, all at home in Muscatine, and Beatriz Mendieta of Muscatine; her father, Michael 'Mikey' Smith and his wife, Brenda, of Muscatine; her mother, Cynthia Cozad and her husband Raymond, of Fruitland; her siblings, Chad Smith and his wife, Molly, of Letts, Casey Smith and his significant other, Jacee Christianson, of Muscatine, Melissa Reeves and her husband, Steve, of Fruitland, Jamie Munson and her significant other, Irvin Cabrera, of Fruitland, and Amy Bock and her husband, Ian, of Azel, Texas; paternal grandparents, Chuck and Roberta Smith of Muscatine; her grandmother, Bernice Beckman of Muscatine; mother-in-law, Beatriz Mendieta of Mexico; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Mendieta and Victor of Mexico; three brothers-in-law, Jesus Mendieta, Jonathan Mendieta, and Uriel Mendieta all of Mexico; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Tirena is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, William and Sharon Musgrove; her stepbrother, Timothy Beckman; her uncle, Charles Smith Jr.; father-in-law, Raul Vargas Rodriguez; and Raul's grandparents, Maria and Angel Mendieta and Teresa and Raul Vargas.
