John Wright Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, First Church United, West Liberty. Visitation: 10 a.m.-service time, at the church. WEST LIBERTY, Iowa -- John R. Wright, 93, of West Liberty, passed after a brief illness at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. The Rev. Al Zimmerman will officiate. Burial will be in the Rest Haven Cemetery in West Des Moines. Memorials may be made to the First Church United. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Wright was born Nov. 20, 1913, in Hersher, Ill., the son of Floyd and Grace Wright. The family later moved to the Fairfield area. In the spring of 1937, he graduated from Iowa State University in civil engineering. He was the campus engineer in his senior year. He married Eloise A. Mountain Jan. 29, 1938. He was the director of engineering design at Ralston Purina in St. Louis for 38 years. He was a professional registered engineer and a registered land surveyor. After retirement, he returned to Iowa with his wife to live and raise corn on his beloved farm, Edelweiss. In his free time, he was active in scouting and the YMCA as well as a committed member of the First Church United in West Liberty. He is survived by his wife; two children, Suzanne Marie and her husband, Leonard Ray Cutler, and Charles Everestand his wife, Graciela; three grandchildren, Christopher John, Grace Anne and Rebecca Lynn; and four great-grandchildren, Chaise Margaret, Elizabeth Grace, Cara Everest and Claire Eloise.
