Cathy Ann Numelin, 73, of Hampton and Latimer, Iowa, passed away Friday, July 16, 2021, at Mayo Clinic Hospital - Methodist Campus in Rochester, Minnesota, after a recent diagnosis of cancer. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 22, 2021, at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 23, 2021, at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton. MASKS ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED. Burial will take place in the Hampton Cemetery.
She was born December 28, 1947, in Hampton, Iowa, to Orville Dean and Norma Irene (Wright) Mittelstadt. In 1966, Cathy graduated from Hampton High School and then completed training at La James Beauty School in Cedar Rapids. She was partnered in marriage with Orlin Brice Numelin on October 18, 1969. To this union, two sons were born. On June 9, 2018, she was joined in marriage with her husband Darwin D. Hill of Latimer, Iowa.
An entrepreneur and lifelong businesswoman, in 1973 she opened Cathy's Beauty Salon and proudly served Hampton and the surrounding community for 48 years. Her sense of duty and honor was so strong she worked until she was unable to, closing her shop weeks before she passed. Cathy loved socializing with her loyal customers, who were lifelong clients and dear friends. When not in her beauty shop, she enjoyed baking and cooking, gardening, collecting, family reunions and get-togethers, camping with her family, socializing with her friends, watching westerns, laughing, and spending time with her three grandchildren. Her holiday and Christmas decorations and collections are legendary and brought joy to her family and homes throughout the year. Cathy treasured the many vacations and trips that her and Darwin took together and they optimistically planned many more adventures.
She was preceded in death by her husband Orlin Numelin, her father Orville Mittelstadt, her paternal grandparents Emil and Gertie (Geiken) Mittelstadt and maternal grandparents William and Lexie (Nedrow) Wright.
Cathy is survived by her husband Darwin Hill of Latimer, sons Christopher (Aimee) Numelin of Hampton and Andrew Numelin of Overland Park, Kansas, grandchildren Skylar Numelin of Hampton, Sofie Numelin and Fionna Numelin of Overland Park, Kansas, her mother Norma Mittelstadt of Hampton, sisters Nancy Robertson of Geneva and Lori (Dan) Hubka of Sheffield.
Her family wishes to give thanks and gratitude to the skilled caregivers and doctors at Mayo Clinic Hospital for caring and comforting her during her brief fight with cancer.
