GRACE BAUER MUSCATINE, Iowa - Grace S. Bauer, 95, of Muscatine, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Bickford Cottage. Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, April 5, 2008, at Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Don Swanson of the First Baptist Church will officiate along with Reverend Robert Veninga and Reverend Robert Shaw. Casket bearers will be Joel Nietzel, Todd Nietzel, Matt Guldenpfennig, Jack Smit, Ted Small, and Josh Carthey. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will follow the committal service at First Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2008, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church. Grace was born on January 18, 1913, in Muscatine, the daughter of Antoon and Grace Meertens Smit Sr. She married Robert A. Bauer on July 25, 1938, in Muscatine. He preceded her in death on May 31, 1999. Grace was a 50 plus year member of the First Baptist Church, served in church offices, and as pianist in the Beginner Department for many years. She also belonged to PEO Chapter OE. She, along with her husband and daughter, Nancy, loved to travel the world. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Alberta Smit and Gretchen Brei; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, Nancy Bauer on January 16, 1998, three brothers, David, Pieter, and Antoon Smit Jr., and two sisters, Jennie Wickey and Christine Lorber.
