Merle was born in St. Anthony, Iowa on July 7, 1924 to Henry and Mamie (Tagatoff) Meimann. The family soon relocated to McCallsburg and began farming. While going to school in McCallsburg Merle was a tremendous athlete and excelled at baseball. After graduating from the McCallsburg High School class of 1942, he joined the Army. After basic training, due to his dad being injured, he was honorably discharged, and he came home to farm. Merle married Arlene Oxley and they moved to the family farm and began their family. He farmed and raised a lot of livestock over the years. Merle married LuCille (Shields) Beving and they moved to Colo and later Cedar Falls. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Nevada, Iowa and the Knights of Columbus. Merle loved: his family and spending time with them, farming, the Chicago Cubs, Iowa State Cyclone's, baseball, playing horseshoes, playing cards, golfing, table tennis, croquet, and being a jokester.
Those left to cherish his loving memory are his children Diane Osmundson of Meridian, Idaho, Kay (Brad) Wilkening of Ankeny, Iowa, Craig (Cathy) Meimann of Ankeny, Iowa, stepchildren Nate (Deb) Beving, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Myrna Wade of Colorado, and Karen Jacobsen of Colorado; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.

"I was one of members of St. Patrick Church in Cedar Falls that used to lead a Communion prayer service at the Stannard and Martin Center (before the pandemic). If Merle was not able to come to the chapel, I would stop by his room. I always enjoyed visiting with him and he always thanked me for coming. My thoughts and prayers to the family! "
