Haroldean Gorman
March 15, 1923 - August 4, 2021

Haroldean Gorman, age 98, of Ames, Iowa, formerly of Story City, passed away on August 4, 2021, at Green Hills Health Care Center in Ames. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, August 13, 2021, at Grace United Methodist Church, 624 Elm Avenue, Story City, Iowa, with a graveside service to follow at the Story City Cemetery.

Haroldean was born March 15, 1923, on a farm south of Iowa Falls, Iowa to Harry and Flossie (Riley) Smith. She attended country school at Lincoln # 7. When Haroldean was 18, she wanted to enlist in the military, but her father wouldn't allow it. In 1944, during WWII and when she was 21, Haroldean enlisted in the military and served in WAVES, a division of the U.S. Navy. She was honorably discharged in April of 1946.

On June 7, 1947, Haroldean married Joseph Flaspohler and from this union, their two children, Mark and Jo Ellen were born. The two later divorced. On December 26, 1999, she married Howard Gorman in Story City, Iowa. Haroldean had worked at Yeakel Drug in Story City and Ralston Purina in Iowa Falls, retiring in 2003. Haroldean was a member of the Story City American Legion & Auxillary # 59, a member of the Story City Fine Arts Womens' Club and a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Story City, where she was also a part of the United Methodist Womens' Group. Haroldean enjoyed playing cards, traveling and dancing at Lake Robins. She cherished the time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Haroldean is survived by her son, Mark (Rose) Flaspohler; son-in-law, Ayal Nitzan; grandchildren, Emily (Adam) McCann, Anson (Elizabeth) Flaspohler, Alex (Claire) Flaspohler, Nicole Nitzan and Renae Nitzan; great-grandchildren, Cruz McCann, Barric McCann, John Flaspohler, Bennett Flaspohler, Reagan Flaspohler and Truman Flaspohler; brother, William Smith; nieces, nephews; and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Harriet Graham; husbands, Howard Gorman and Joseph Flaspohler; and daughter, Jo Ellen (Flaspohler) Nitzan.
