W. FLOYD SCOTT MUSCATINE, Iowa - W. Floyd Scott, 95, of Muscatine, died Tuesday, August 12, 2008, at Unity Hospital. Celebration of Life of Service will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2008, at the Wesley United Methodist Church. Dr. Hal Green will officiate the service. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the combined squads of the American Legion Post 27 and the V.F.W. Post 1565. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2008, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church. Mr. Scott was born on October 27, 1912, in Sparta, Illinois, the son of Floyd C. and Agnes Somerville Scott. He married Dorothy M. Nyweide on August 19, 1941, in Muscatine. She preceded him in death on July 15, 1997. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corp. He joined the military in 1942, and, following his active duty, he continued in the Reserves retiring in 1970 as Lieutenant Colonel. He graduated from Cornell College and received his master's degree from the University of Iowa. He worked for over 40 years with the Muscatine School System and Muscatine Community College, where he served as Dean of Muscatine Community College for four years. He was an active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, he was a member of the 33 Club, member of Iowa Lodge No. 2 AF and AM, and was a past DeMolay Commander, he was the former president of the Muscatine County Music Association, and a former president of the Muscatine Teachers Association. He was a former member of Rotary International, served as Treasurer, and received a Paul Harris Fellow award. Survivors include two daughters, Jan Stoltenberg of Port Byron, Illinois, and Carol Duffe and husband, David, of Moscow; four granddaughters, Laura Stoltenberg Anderson and husband, Bill, of Chicago, Illinois, Sara Bauer and husband, Jason, of Brookfield, Illinois, Jill Hugunin and husband, Travis, of Wilton and Jenny Ferguson of Wilton; four great-grandchildren, Redmond and Emma Bauer, and Ellie and Abby Hugunin; and one sister, Harriett Scott of Dixon, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother, Vernon Scott.

Floyd was a pallbearer at both of my parent's funerals.
