MUSCATINE, Iowa - Florene A. Nowysz, 88, passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at SunnyBrook at Muscatine.

Funeral Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 22, 2021, at Grace Lutheran Church, with a fellowship to follow at the church. Private burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Florene was born on April 8, 1933, in Muscatine, the daughter of Byron V. and Martha Rutka Massey. She married Marion Nowysz in 1959.

She graduated from Muscatine High School and attended Muscatine Junior College. Florene worked at Iowa Gas and Electric Company and Carver Foundry Products, prior to working for her father at Masseys Business Equipment Center and Ring King Visibles, Inc. Upon her father's retirement, in 1978, she became the owner and president, till she retired in 2001.

Florene was a lifetime member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she was baptized, confirmed, and married. She was also a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Council, Chaired and served on many committees. She Chaired the Centinnel Committee for the celebration in 1997. Florene was a past president of the Muscatine Downtown Association, an officer on the boards of the Muscatine Chamber of Commerce, and Muscatine Development Corporation. She was an active member and served as an officer of the Salvation Army Auxiliary. She was also a member and served on the board of the Muscatine Sister Cities Association.

Florene loved her family, including her church family, and attending church. She was proud of her Slovak heritage and kept in touch with cousins. Florene traveled to Slovakia twice to visit them. She enjoyed emailing friends and relatives, and spending time at the cottage on the Mississippi. Florene also enjoyed attending her grandchildren's activities.

The family would like to extend a thank you to SunnyBrook and UnityPoint Hospice for their compassion and dedicated care that Florene received.

Florene is survived by her children, Jean Boche (Gary) of Bettendorf, Dr. Stephanie Nowysz-Ward (Mike) of Iowa City, and stepson, Bill Nowysz of Iowa City; granddaughters: Tiphanie Cannon, Alyssa Cabrera and (Pablo), Holly Fisk (Brad), Melissa Fontanini (Blake), and McKenzie Ward; great grandchildren, Leo, Jack, Daisy, Fritz, Frankie, Colten, Ava, Bianca, Lidia, Ethan, Savannah, Emma, Max; nephew, Craig Drake; and her Niece, Pam Houseman.

She is preceded in death by her husband, in 2002; her parents; and her sister, Marilyn Drake.
