Gene Walker, 79, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away Thursday, August 26, 2021, at his home in Hampton.
He was born Eugene Ellis Walker, also known as "Bus," on December 11, 1941, in Waterloo, to Guy and Esther (Anway) Walker. Gene graduated from Hampton High School.
Gene was united in marriage to Hilda Terrill on August 11, 1961, in Hampton. To this union one son, Scott was born.
Gene was a carpet layer for many years, working alongside his son Scott. He also worked for D & L Sanitation out of Sheffield. Gene was a member of Hampton Church of Christ and Dumont Lions Club. He enjoyed woodworking, sports, family, old westerns, and listening to country music.
Gene is survived by his wife of sixty-years Hilda of Hampton, son Scott of Hampton, brother Bob (Marilyn) Schoon of Mission, Texas, sister Bonnie (Greg) Welsher of Hampton, brother-in-law Herb (Jenny) Terrill of Hampton, sister-in-law Linda Terrill of Dumont, honorary granddaughter "½ Pint" of Hampton, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Kenneth, Larry, Richard, DeWayne, and Verne Walker, brother Ron Schoon, along with a mother and father-in-law, brother-in-law, and a sister-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, August 30, 2021, at Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton. Burial will take place in the Hillside Cemetery in Sheffield. The Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home of Hampton is caring for Gene and his family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in memory of Gene Walker to Northeast Iowa Christian Service Camp.
