Mr. Martin Herbert Waalkes, age 83, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2021. He was born in Muskegon, MI on April 28, 1938 to Martin & Lenore (Pastoor) Waalkes. He married the former Lois Loughery on December 6, 1957. Mr. Waalkes had been employed as a Purchasing Agent for Gordon Manufacturing until retiring. Martin volunteered as a girls vollyball & boys basketball coach at Northview High School in Grand Rapids and later at Muskegon High School where he was known as "Coach Grandpa".
SURVIVORS
Wife, Lois; son, Robert (Cathi) Waalkes of North Muskegon; daughter, Susan (Bruce) Summers of Bluffton, SC; grandchildren, Rebecca Waalkes, Sarah Waalkes, Jacob Waalkes, Jennifer Krutewicz, Justin Waalkes, Aubrey Petty; great-grandchildren, Sofia & Alexander; brother, David Waalkes; sisters-in-law, Jeanne DeVette, Mary (Norman) Nichols. He was preceded in death by his son James, in 2012.
SERVICE
Thursday, September 9, 2021, 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service at Clock Chapel - Muskegon with Rev. Bob Bierenga officiating. Interment in Lakeside Cemetery.
