Paul Welton WESTMINISTER, CALIFORNIA - Paul Welton, 74, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on March 20, 2009. He passed away of a heart attack while working on the Marolf family farm near Muscatine. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Lutheran World Relief (www.lwr.org) or Habitat for Humanity of Orange County (www.habitatoc.org). Paul was born in Rochester, New York, on April 28, 1934, and graduated from the University of Rochester with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1956. He began his career working for Douglas Aircraft in California, soon moving to Hughes Aircraft and earning a masters degree in engineering from UCLA in 1964. That same year, he married his beloved wife, June Marolf, who grew up in Muscatine, Iowa, and gradated from Muscatine High School. Together they raised their family and committed themselves to sharing their faith in God. Mr. Welton retired in 2002, after working 42 years with Hughes/Boeing, but continued in a consultant capacity for several years afterwards. He was a man with a strong faith and conviction; honest and caring with a sharp mind and quiet wit. He was a devoted member of Grace Lutheran Church in Huntington Beach, California, and will be remembered fondly for his involvement in choir, Alpha, evangelism, small groups, and his enduring enthusiasm and engineering prowess that helped to create the church's Fourth of July parade floats every year. He had a great passion for hiking, camping with dear friends, fixing cars, engines or any malfunctioning machinery, and organizing photography and slides from his many outings and trips. He was fortunate to travel extensively with his wife after retirement, visiting Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, South America and China, and all 50 states. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, June Welton; sons Jeff Welton of Garden Grove, California, James Welton of Huntington Beach, California, and John Welton and wife, Kerry, of Rossmoor, California; grandsons Nathan and Carter of Rossmoor; a brother, Roger and Barbara Welton of Fort Meyers Beach, Florida, a sister-in-law, Margaret Marolf of Muscatine, and a brother-in-law, Edwin Marolf of Davenport.
