Dorothy Lloyd ILLINOIS CITY, Illinois - Dorothy Lloyd, 80, Illinois City died Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at Unity Hospital, Muscatine. Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2009, at the Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be at Edgington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2009, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Antioch Baptist Church or St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Dorothy was born on February 17, 1929, in Aledo, Illinois, the daughter of Dow and Della Beeding Ripley. She married Lowell Lloyd on September 2, 1949, at the First Baptist Church, Aledo, Illinois. She was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church. MomĀ as Dorothy was called, loved taking care of everyone, especially cooking for everyone. She was generous with her time and enjoyed helping others. She attended Western Illinois University, obtaining her teachers certificate. She taught prior to her marriage. In later years she was the study hall monitor at Rockridge High School. She was also an administrative assistant at the Mercer County Hospital. Those left to cherish Dorothy's memory include her husband, Lowell Lloyd of Illinois City, Illinois; her children, Warren Lloyd and wife, Marcia, of Reynolds, Illinois; Melanie Peck and husband, Ted, of Galena, Missouri, and Jay Lloyd and wife, Julie, of Illinois City, Illinois; five grandchildren, Justin Lloyd, Kelly Howell, Carri Jones, Tanner Lloyd and Jordan Lloyd. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lyle and Henry Clay Ripley; and two sisters, Alta Brown and Ruth Frye.
