"I met Greg in the Navy, on board the Uss Independence around 1976 . We were both young and full of energy. He always liked to wrestle with me first thing in the morning while we were waiting for roll call to begin. We had some really good times while we were in Norfolk, VA. When ever we were on shore together we always had a great time! I'm sorry we didn't stay in touch after the navy; And I'm truly sorry to hear of his passing....He was way to young !! God bless all of you."

"I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I remember Greg very well, having grown up with him in Coralville in the sixties, then later when he worked at Thomas and Betts. I wish I could have made it there today for all of you. His memory will reside in my heart for years to come. God bless all of you.

"To Greg's Family,
I went to school with Greg in Iowa City and always had great conversations when we would bump into each other. I had not seen Greg for years but will remember his ornery and humorous ways. He is someone I think of often and wondered where he was . Now I know. I wish him peace, and know that he will be missed. Hugs. Linda Sexton Fobian~ Iowa City."

"I am very sorry for the familys loss. Knowing Greg has been a blessing these last 10 years. I dont know how life is going to be without him, but I am so greatfull that Mason had at least 9 1/2 years with his grandpa. Had it not been for Greg my son would not know any of the Oakes side of his family, and what a wonderfull side it is. I hope that Greg knows just how important he was to Mason and I and how our lives will be less without him. I will keep him forever in my closest memories and never let Mason forget the days he had with his Grandpa Greg.
Love,
Melissa Horton"

"Mora Leigh: I am sorry to hear about Greg. He was known all over town, as the lord's "fix-it man".
I go to prepare a place for you. And, if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. John 14:2:3
In closing: Just remember to keep your grief light hearted, and as time goes by, the sorrow will fade, and then you will be blessed with beautiful memories of him.
God Bless you & your family"

"Mora Leigh, When told Greg had "passed away" I said no, Greg went to be with Jesus. I can hear him say it!! I have only known Greg for 2 years, but we have had hours of conversation, he has done lots of work for us and he shared his heart. He Loved the Lord entirely and wanted so much for his kids and your kids to come to know the Lord as well. It was truly his heart's desire. He will be truly, truly missed, but Oh, I can't imagine what joy he is experiencing now with his Lord. Sincerely, Deb & Rick Fenwick"

"I am sorry to hear of the loss of Greg. He brought many interesting conversations to the transfer station when he visited.
We do not know what day we will go to the lord. Only God knows what day he will come down and grant us the right into his kingdom. Right now it is not fair to see Greg gone from the world as we know it. But, right now Greg is having the biggest party with God and Jesus on both sides of him! His pain is gone and he is clapping his hands, dancing, and singing!
May God speed you through the pain Mora Leigh and your family too."
