Ernest 'Ernie' William Kunde TIPTON, Iowa - Ernest ErnieĀ William Kunde Sr., 88, Tipton, died Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Cedar Manor in Tipton after a brief illness. Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at the Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Burial will take place in the Tipton Masonic Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to VFW Post No. 2537, Lions Club or Meals on Wheels. Ernie was born on August 3, 1921, the son of William L. E. and Lucie C. Stahl Kunde, on the family farm near McCausland. He married Marian M. Amend in 1944 and they later divorced. He married Julia A. Cooper in 1971. He resided in the Tipton area all his adult life. He farmed and worked in a variety of agriculture related jobs in his lifetime. He retired from Agricultural Building Services, after 20 years of service. In his retirement he enjoyed his family, gardening, hunting, fishing, woodworking and all things outdoors. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Tipton. He was a past commander of Bennett American Legion Post No. 104. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, having served during WW II. He was past commander and current Chaplain of Tipton VFW post No. 2537, having served in many capacities, including as a steadfast member of the color guard. He is survived by his brother, Elmer Kunde and wife, Delores, of Tipton; a sister-in-law Joanne Becker and husband, Ernie, of Austin, Texas; daughters, Nancy Koberg and husband, Larry, of Walcott, Connie Cox and Shawn Taylor of Delhi, New York, Sandy Kunde and Dan Luettjohann of Tipton, Linda Burrow of New Albia; Marsha Nash, and Sheila Polman and husband, Mike, of West Liberty; sons, Gary Kunde and Marsha Solares of Solon; Joseph Bromell and wife, Lisa, of Moscow; Vernon Beckerb and wife, Kelly Jr., of Raymore, Missouri; Ernest Kunde Jr. and wife, Jaime, of Eagle River, Arkansas; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by wife, Julia; his parents; a brother, Eugene; and sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Leonard Schwitzer.
