Sophie Kocoves, 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on October 2, 2021 at her residence in Novi, Michigan.
She was born and raised in Savannah, GA, and moved to Michigan after meeting her husband while he was stationed in the Army near Savannah. They resided in Grosse Pointe Woods for most of their married life. He passed away after 33 years of marriage, at age 58, while they resided at Riverfront Towers in Detroit. After his passing, she started working at Automotive News and Crain Communications in their Marketing departments. She retired at age 79 and moved to Novi to be closer to her children.
She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Economou (Savannah GA), her children: Eva Fink, Cindy (Mark) Sikina, Alex (Georgia) Kocoves, her 5 grandchildren: Dean, Drew, Alex, Gregory and Alyssa, and many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Ethel Rousakis, her husband Gus, her sister Mary Kolgaklis, her brother Bill Rousakis and her nephews, Larry Larson and Dimitri Rousakis.
Her funeral will be held at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 21800 Marter Rd., Saint Clair Shores MI 48080 on Wednesday October 6, 2021. Viewing starts at 9:30 am, service at 11:00 am, and interment following at Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit. Funeral services will be live-streamed at www.goassumption.org.
