Kermit Karl Peterson
September 3, 1942 - April 6, 2011

Kermit Karl Peterson WAPELLO, Iowa - Kermit Karl Peterson, 68, Wapello, died on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at his mother's home in Wapello, after a courageous battle against cancer. Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church in Wapello. The Rev. Erv Smith will officiate. Burial will take place in Wapello Cemetery with military rites by the Wapello VFW. After the committal service, a lunch will be served at the United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Wapello. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 8, 2011, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello, where family will meet with friends from 4 to 7 p.m. A memorial fund has been established. Kermit was born on September 3, 1942, in Wapello, the son of Carl and Geneva Harrison Peterson. He was a graduate of Wapello High School in 1960. He married Ruth Ann Wilson on February 27, 1962, in Wapello. She preceded him in death on November 20, 1962. He later married Leah Marie Verrips on January 18, 1964, in Wapello. They had two children and later divorced. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he was a sub tender for the USS Fulton in Connecticut. He served from 1960 to 1964. He retired from HON Industries, in Muscatine, after 35 years of employment. He then went on to work at S amp; J Tube, in Wapello, for 10 years. He enjoyed farming and raising cattle and supported the motorcycle trials at the farm with Kerm's Cowpasture Classic. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and going to their school activities. He also enjoyed spending time at the local barbershop, Mo Jo's. Those left to honor his memory include his mother, Geneva Peterson of Wapello; two sisters, Carol Barrick and husband, David, of Roach, Missouri, and Mollie Moehle and husband, Ed, of Mediapolis; two sons, Kermit L. Peterson and wife, Carolyn (Bauer), of Wapello, and William ''Bill'' Peterson and wife, Brenda, of Medford, Wisconsin; a former daughter-in-law, Kendra Christoph and husband, Dee, of Bel Air, Maryland; and seven grandchildren, Derrick, Desiree, and Danielle Peterson of Wapello, Andrew and Arielle Peterson and Hannah and Zachary Christoph of Bel Air, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl; his first wife, Ruth Ann; and a nephew, Mike Barrick.
