LeRoy William Benning, 85, of Ackley, Iowa, passed away Thursday, October 28, 2021, at Franklin Country View Nursing Facility in Hampton.
LeRoy was born on May 16, 1936, in Ackley, to Edward and Christina (Mehmen) Benning. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in rural Geneva, and was very active there the remainder of his life.
LeRoy graduated from Ackley-Geneva High School, class of 1955. He joined the Iowa National Guard. LeRoy was united in marriage to Connie Zacharias on September 30, 1956, in Geneva; this year they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
LeRoy was a hardworking man and thoroughly enjoyed working. He worked for Adams Brothers laying carpet, Farmland Foods, and Omnium; retiring at the age of 81. When he wasn't working, LeRoy enjoyed bowling, fishing, trapping, camping and was a sprint car racing fan.
LeRoy is survived by his wife, Connie Benning of Ackley; daughter, Shelley (Arup) Bhuyan of Idaho Falls, Idaho; son, Barton (Mary) Benning of Boone; grandchildren Kassie Bhuyan of Kansas City, Kansas, Sondra (Eathan Jaax) Bhuyan of Kansas City, Kansas, Jordan (Ashley) Benning of Grimes, and Kaci Benning of Boone; sister, Luella Benning of Colorado Springs, Colorado; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Christina; infant son, Craig; daughter, Jennifer; and sisters, Maxine and Deloris.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton.
