In loving memory of

Thomas A. Mercaldo
May 26, 1943 - October 30, 2021

Thomas A. Mercaldo, of Doylestown, formerly of Blue Bell and Fort Washington, died suddenly, surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Doylestown Hospital. He was 78 years old.

Born in Philadelphia, Thomas was the son of the late Thomas and Lillian (Calabrese) Mercaldo. He was a 1961 graduate of Upper Dublin High School and attended Roanoke College. Mr. Mercaldo worked for the family business, Mecco Construction Company, for many years. He then worked in the construction division of Continental Bank. He finished his career as an independent contractor specializing in bank security installations until his retirement.

Tom loved a good party, a great steak, Philly sports teams, and his beloved golf, which he began playing at age 10. He was always searching for the elusive hole-in-one, and enjoyed every hole he played. He was known for scouting out the best Italian restaurants all over the Philadelphia area and enjoyed taking friends and family out for a great meal.

Tom made friends everywhere he went, and when he made a friend, that was a friendship for life. From the neighborhoods in Fort Washington, Blue Bell, and Doylestown, to Upper Dublin High School, his college fraternity, Sigma Chi, or his many golfing buddies, Tom was beloved by everyone who knew him. He was a member of Sandy Run Country Club for over 40 years and loved his time on the course, in the clubhouse, and especially with the many, many friends he made there. His sense of humor, twinkling eyes, and big smile were infectious to all of the wonderful people in his life.

But most of all, Tom loved his family. He is survived by Chris, his beloved wife of 55 years. He is the loving father of Mindy Chychlyk (Steve) of Wilmette, IL and Kim Calhoun (David) of Lumberton, NJ. Tom is the dear grandfather of Ryan, Carly, and Julia, who loved their Grampy. He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Lillian, his younger brother John; and is survived by his brother Stephen (Denise) of Mifflinburg, PA. Tom's faithful dog Lily will miss her daily rides in the car with him.

Tom cared deeply about finding a cure for breast cancer. In lieu of flowers we request a donation in his memory to METAVIVOR, an organization that invests in finding treatments for advanced breast cancer. https://donate.metavivor.org/give/318818/#!/donation/checkout

Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Service on November 20, 2021, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at Sandy Run Country Club, 200 E Valley Green Rd, Oreland, PA 19075. Luncheon will follow, where all are invited to share in a Celebration of Tom's Life.

We ask you to remember Tom by playing your favorite golf hole or eating a big plate of pasta in his honor!

"When Mark and I first joined Jericho National Golf Club, two of the first people we met were Chris and Tom. We were paired with Tom and Chris in a Nine and Dine and I was scared to death to play with such good golfers, I was a very beginner golfer. Of course, I duffed my first ball and Tom told me to hit another one. Tom let me know right then and there that golf is fun. And he helped me relax. Mark and I will miss the big smile and sense of humor. Mark and Linda Conish"
