"I remember meeting Daniel as we all moved into Wyckoff Hall for our first year at Hope College. We would often cross paths our freshman year. In the coming years when he became a manager of the football team, our bond become deeper due to our common love for the game. I will remember Daniel as an individual who would be present for you in your highest and lowest moments to let you know he was thinking of you. We spoke when my roommate passed away in January 2019, he took the time to reach out when I got engaged six months ago, and most recently, we messaged on his 26th birthday. He was a good man, and I am grateful we crossed paths at Hope College. I send my deepest condolences to the Foy family and Daniel's loved ones. May you rest well, my friend. "

"It was a great honor to get to know and to spend time with Dan. I enjoyed watching him grow from a happy and inquisitive child to a kind, thoughtful and compassionate young man. He faced every challenge with a positivity and strength that was both inspiring and humbling. Like Carly, I was always impressed that, no matter what challenges he was facing, he first wanted to ask me about my family and my sons. He always remembered where they were and what they were doing. I agree that Dan taught us all so much about grace and honor and a life well-lived. I will always carry with me his presence and what I learned from him. My love to your family. Thank you for sharing Dan with us. "

"Mary, Dave, Emma and Ian, My heart is broken by Dan's death. He was such a warrior, always caring and compassionate. I was so honored to be his cardiologist when he was a kid. Every time I talked with him recently, he would ask me about my son, which touched me every time. He had a heart of gold and I will always remember and honor his strength and perseverance. He taught us all so much with how he lived his life with love and grace. Thinking of you all, take care of each other."

"We do not know your family directly but my longtime friend Lory Egar, told me about Daniel?s passing because she knew it would be close to our hearts. Our first born had a congenital heart defect when he was born as well. We lost him at 5 days old after his first of what should have been three surgeries. It wasn?t meant to be. We always wonder what he would have accomplished and how his life would have been. Your Daniel sure seemed to live life to the fullest and touched many hearts along the way. We just wanted to reach out to send our love. We have attended the Save A Heart event for almost all of the last 24 years and will make our donation this year, at the event, in his honor. If you happen to attend, we would love to give you a hug in person. God bless you and your amazing son, Daniel."

"In his all too short time here with us, Daniel touched so many of us and made a long-lasting impact on all of our lives. His unwavering faith, strength, determination to overcome so many challenges, love of his family and friends are all a long lasting legacy and will never be forgotten by all he touched. Dave, Mary, Emma and Ian your grief is both unimaginable and inconsolable. We pray that you all find comfort in knowing Daniel is in heaven with Jesus and reaching down to provide you, his loving family strength at this time. We too are sad and deeply hurt. However, our faith gives us the strength to go forward with the knowledge we will be reunited with him again. "

"Dear Mary and Dave, Your son was an AMAZING MAN who LOVED SOOOO HARD!! He was 1 in a million!! I am FOREVER grateful to have gotten to know him. I remember so many of our talks and how he LOVED people. I cannot imagine your deep sorrow and suffering right now. Please know that I am praying for only comfort in knowing that you will be reunited with Daniel in Heaven again sometime. In the meantime, I can see him taking walks with his grandmother as he waits!! He used to tell me all about the walks he would have with her. I will be out of town for his celebration of life but know you are in my heart. God bless your family."
