Grace Bernice Koss, 90, of Antigo, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 12, 2021, surrounded by family in the comfort of her home.
She was born on March 4, 1931 in Antigo to Anton and Helen (Taterka) Spychalla. She attended St. Hyacinth Catholic School and graduated from Antigo High School in 1949. Following graduation, she worked on the assembly line for Globe Union, Inc. in Milwaukee and Weinbrenner Shoe Factory in Antigo.
She married Stephen "Steve" Koss on November 25, 1954 at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church. They raised seven children on their dairy farm northeast of the city. They celebrated their 50th and 60th wedding anniversaries.
Grace was a person of faith and a lifelong member of SS Mary and Hyacinth Catholic Church. She was also a member of the church's Rosary Society.
She was a talented homemaker and devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed baking, playing bingo and cards and polka music. But her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Steve; seven children, Debra (John) Wolter, Lynn (Jay) Arrowood, Gail (Kenneth) Schroepfer, Renee (Michael) Heiny, and Gregory, all of Antigo, Stephen (Angela) of Poynette, and Kevin (Eric Bower) of San Francisco, CA; 10 grandchildren, Ryan Wolter, Robert (Patti) Wolter, and Jonelle (Daniel) Tangert, Matthew (Tina) Arrowood, Mark (Lacy) Arrowood, Alex Heiny and Adam Heiny, Nicholas Koss and Kyle Koss, and Stephanie (Derek) Bessert. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by a brother-in-law, Tony (Doris) Koss and sister-in-law, Marian Koss.
She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Molly Koss; her parents; four sisters, Catherine Lese, Helen Blomdahl, Leona Baraniak, and Bernice Wisnewski; and one brother, Tony Spychalla.
A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at 11 a.m. at SS Mary & Hyacinth Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Hoffmann officiating. Burial will take place in St. Wencel Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Bradley Funeral Home.
A parish wake service will be held on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
