"Although I didn't know Bob lived in this area, we graduated together from New Trier High School in 1958. If my memory is correct we also graduated from 8th grade at Avoca School in Wilmette, Il. I also live in Crockery Township and work at the township office. From reading about Bob it appears he had a great life. My sympathy to his family and Friends. Judy (Vink)"

"Corny jokes and bad puns. Unbridled cheerfulness. Never a bad word about anyone. And a loyal friend. That's Bob Allen. He was smart. He knew a lot about a lot of things. Even when his health was failing and it became more difficult for him to talk, his knowledge and detailed memory were amazing. I met Bob over 50 years ago at Southern Illinois University, and our friendship continued from Carbondale to Wheaton to California to Muskegon. We had a few adventures over the years -- Ft. Lauderdale during Spring Break; a crazy all-night drive to New Orleans with 5 of us stuffed into his Volkswagen hatchback; a wonderful camping and canoe trip in Wisconsin. But mostly it was his love of life, the conversations, and that ever-present cheerfulness (and corny jokes) that I remember. Bob loved the outdoors, and it was tough for him when he was no longer able to camp and hike. But through it all he never complained and always seemed upbeat. Bob was a gentleman, and a kind and caring person to everyone he met. He was an inspiration, and I miss him."
