Raymond Donald Spurgeon

Raymond Donald Spurgeon, of Antigo, died Thursday, November 18, 2021, at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison. He was 89 years old. He was born on May 28, 1932, in Antigo, a son of George and Lottie (Schmidt) Spurgeon. Raymond married Jane Pagel, they had two children, and later divorced.

He was a graduate of Antigo High School. Mr. Spurgeon lived in Milwaukee for 47 years. He was employed by Continental Can Company for 37 years. He later worked part-time for Johnson Leveling Tools in Milwaukee. Following his retirement, he moved back to Antigo.

Raymond enjoyed camping and hunting with his family. He also enjoyed good conversations with friends and family.

Survivors include a daughter, Michele "Shelly" (Peter) Resch of Deerbrook; a son, James (special friend Diane Cibik) Spurgeon of Polar; five grandchildren, Carrie (Earl) Roth, Scott (Lynn) Resch, Travis Spurgeon, Amber (Michael) Cybula and Chariti (significant other Dean) Niquette; nine great-grandchildren, Rylee and Zachary Roth, Kamerin and Zoe Resch, Brandy Spurgeon, Joshua Hansen, Kiahlee and Vidalia Cybula, Sawyer Niquette; and longtime special friend, Patricia Boers.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold "Mike Spurgeon, Roy Spurgeon and George Spurgeon; and two sisters, Marcella Bown and Mae Schmutzer.

A private graveside service will take place at Elmwood Cemetery in Antigo.
