In loving memory of

Felipe "Phil Tha Mixx" Clay
February 27, 1966 - November 16, 2021

Felipe Renard Clay- Also known as Phil to his family or "Phil Tha Mixx" to his fan was born on February 27th, 1966, to the union of Brenda Starr Williamson and the late Bruce Renard Clay in Detroit, Michigan.
Raised as a Jehovah's Witness, Phil attended Finney High School and graduated with the class of 1984.
Phil started working as a truck driver in 1999 and continued until his last days for 20 years. Phil is perhaps best known for his profession as the renowned and respected Detroit DJ, Phil Tha Mixx. Apart The DJ Brotherhood, Tandem Entertainment as well as Circle Events. He was best known for hosting the Detroit Kentucky Derby Day Party, as well as sharing his passion of music and love of life with the world.
Phil was a positive, outgoing, and outspoken person. Those who knew him would often talk about how he would go above and beyond to make another feel special. Never failing to put a smile on someone's face. Able to breath life into any room he entered with his signature charm and swagger. Where Phil really shined was during a celebration. The true definition of "The Life of the Party." Phil had a way of turning any get together into a full-blown event. A family gathering would not be complete without Phil Tha Mixx on deck.
While Music was a big part of his character, Phil had other passions. An avid foodie, Phil never failed to show his love of food whether it was a backyard barbeque or the family's annual crab feast. He loved watching movies, often watching them in his mancave with his fiancée Doris, who he lovingly referred t by her middle name "Lee." Whether it be sports, a documentary, or an action flick he never failed to show his excitement.
Dapper, suave, and with just the right amount of swag, Phil always made sure he looked sharp. Rarely seen without one of his signature hats and debonair wardrobe, dressed to the nines, you would think he was on his way to another party. Then again life was a party for Phil or rather he made it one.
There was more to Phil then the jovial free spirit that he was mostly known for. He was a passionate and caring man, devoted to those he loved. Phil was adored by those around him. He served as a prominent role model to the males of his family and was a father figure to his younger brother Benjamin, and step-son Kristopher Bryant, helping them grow and prosper. A confidant, a shoulder to cry on, a mentor, a loving brother and beloved son, there were a lot of roles that Phil took that many were unaware of.

Those left to cherish his memory include: his mother, Brenda Starr Williamson, sister Bridgit Calhoun (Joseph) and, brother Benjamin Williamson (Alysha), his beloved fiancée Doris Bryant, Kristopher Bryant to who he helped raise, two nieces Sydney Calhoun and Adayah Williamson, and three nephews Joseph Calhoun, Azariah Williamson, and Alijah Williamson.

"Godspeed to you and your family Phil. The news was so hard to receive, but you've received a greater calling. One of my fondest memories was me dancing like a fool off of a tune you played and I went to flag you down to ask "Who is that?". You said, "That's a hot one....It's called DANCE, featuring Marvin Winans and the Clark sisters. It's hot!!" I said "it sure is".... I played that song upon getting your news and now you'll dance forever in heaven and I'll always think of you whenever I hear this.... Farewell my friend."

"Phil Tha Mixx was definitely a master chef with his craft, he knew the right ingredients to get the crowd dancing....he had the recipe for music playing, we will definitely miss his awesome style of cooking with his music, but more less, we will definitely miss our brother. When my 17 yr old had an untimely passing last year, Phil was there for me and I needed several DJ's to play at my son's tribute and Phil did not hesitate. he said "D" I got your bro and he came thru for me and my family, and I truly thank him for that. Once again my condolences and prayers to his family and extended family (House Head Community and fellow DJ's), we definitely lost a good one too soon! DeWan R. Blackmon aka DJ Wan B"
