In loving memory of

Robert Joseph Borgmeyer
May 11, 1929 - November 17, 2021

Robert Joseph Borgmeyer passed away on November 17, 2021, after a well-lived life of 92 years. Bob's life began on May 11, 1929, in Ames, Iowa to parents Frank and Margaret (Sarazine) Borgmeyer. He graduated from Ames High School, class of 1947, and from Iowa State University. He was a proud member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity. Bob met the love of his life, Margaret Scholtes, a kindergarten teacher, at a church fundraiser. They were married in 1957 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ames, Iowa. He purchased the family farm from his parents located just north of Ames where he farmed for well over 40 years. Together with Margaret he raised four children.
Bob's life included service to his country and community. He served his country as a first lieutenant in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. His service to community included serving on the Gilbert Community School Board and as a Story County, Franklin Township, Trustee. Bob was known by his family, friends, and neighbors for his love of Iowa State sports, NY Yankees baseball, classical music, politics, and animals. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He leaves us with many fond memories, especially of his gentle but slightly mischievous humor. We will think of him with the satisfaction of a good breakfast, a tasty Lion's Tap burger, an appreciation of a well-made martini, the beauty of a rural landscape, a hike in the Colorado Rockies, the joy in our feathered friends at the birdfeeder and the companionship of our furry pets.
Bob leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Margaret, Ames, IA (Northcrest Community); his son, Jeff Borgmeyer, of Ames, IA; his son Kevin (Kari) Borgmeyer, of Madison, WI; his daughter Sara (Ron) Borchardt, of Minneapolis, MN; and son, Neal (Angie) Borgmeyer, of Indianola, IA. He lives on in his nine grandchildren: Kate (Chris) Cremons, Jennifer (Jocelyn) Borchardt, Ryan (Elena) Borchardt and Christian (Kiri) Borchardt; Megan, Paige, and Logan Borgmeyer; and Jeb and Ali Borgmeyer.
For all who knew and loved Bob, please join us for a Celebration of Life on December 15, 2021, from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. on the grounds of Northcrest Community in the Fireside Townhome, located near the 20th Street entrance across from the high school.

Scott Dyer wrote on Dec 14, 2021:

"Mr. Borgmeyer (Bob) loved to listen to classical music - loud! I remember when Kevin told Dave Hurd and I about his awesome new speakers and we had to come over and investigate. For teenagers - any music well done and loud was attractive. I remember Mr. Borgmeyer at many Gilbert concerts and keeping his farm well groomed. He was a quiet yet strong presence for many of us that attended Gilbert HS. Our thoughts and prayers are truly with Mrs. Borgmeyer, Jeff, Kevin, Sara and Neal. Scott (and Teri) Dyer"
