Marie C. Kane

Marie Kane (Kolleth)

Marie Kane passed away peacefully on 11/29/21 at the age of 93. She was born to John and Pauline Kolleth in 1928 and grew up with her siblings John and Elizabeth (Elsie) on Conner Street in Detroit. She lived a life of service to others always displaying compassion and kindness and enjoyed making others feel important and loved. She graduated from St. Martin Catholic High School in 1946 and remained friends with a very large group of classmates for the next 70 years. They shared in and enjoyed each other's adventures throughout life as they helped raise each other's families. She married Charlie Kane in 1949 and raised two children, Mary Beth and Tim, on the beloved East Side of Detroit. She was an amazing wife and mother. Holiday dinners with the Kolleths, Kanes and Simeks were made so special by Marie's cooking, baking and TLC.

She began working at the early age of fifteen at Crowley's and then eventually move on to work at Parke-Davis. In 1970, she began working at St. Matthew Catholic School as a teacher's aide. She remained at St. Matthew for the next 45 years providing love, kindness and her motherly approach to countless students. Mrs. Kane had a beautiful gift of making kids feel safe, loved, and valued. The wonderful teachers at St. Matthew were a very close knit group with Mrs. Kane providing baked goods to three decades of educators.

Her zest and enthusiasm for life was never ending as she enjoyed her poker club, cats, knitting, and of course baking. She saw Frank Sinatra in person many times, gambled in Vegas, loved the Tigers and even watched her favorite golfer, Arnold Palmer, in person play in his last PGA event. Mr. Palmer even smiled at her during one of his last holes.

She was a loving grandmother to Erin and Shannon and was able to watch them participate in many of their school activities with unrivaled pride. She remained the loudest supporter in the stands. She also loved her nieces, nephews and many godchildren.

Marie was happiest spending time with those she loved. Whether it was going out with her friend group from St. Martin, volunteering at St. Matthew and De La Salle, playing cards with her beloved poker club, or making dinner for her family, she was always "up" for fun and most content when those she loved were having a good time.

Marie truly is the embodiment of a life well lived of serving others. She will be dearly missed. It was truly a wonderful life!!

Marie is survived by her daughter, Mary Beth Kane; son, Timothy Kane (Paula); grandchildren, Erin Kane and Shannon Kane; brother-in-law Joseph Kane; nieces and nephews, Mark Kane, Kim Schwartz, Jim Simek (Vickie), John Simek, Mary Ann Demski (Ken), Mark Simek (Sandy), Rick Simek, Jack Kolleth, Kevin Kolleth, and Kim King (Todd), and great nieces and great nephews, Jennifer Kolleth, Jared Kolleth, Stephanie Kowalski (Simek), Leslie Bender (Simek), Alex King, Kelsey King, and Christian King. "So many wonderful memories of you at St. Matthew. You get extra credit for putting up with all of us kids for all those years. May the angels lead you into paradise. Rest In Peace. "

Treefrog Joe Eckert wrote on Dec 3, 2021:

"Lovely Marie was the FRONT LINE in the office when I taught at St. Matthews awhile back, and she lovingly tended every student and every teacher that came before her. I can honestly say she was the most warm soul I ever worked with. As my dear aunt used to say, "When you get to heaven there will be many jewels in your crown"; This will certainly be so for our Marie. Brother Tim, Marybeth, and all who loved Marie, I grieve with you. Yours most truly, Treefrog Joe Eckert"
