Gunter Fuhrmannek

Gunter Fuhrmannek, of Antigo, WI died Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Aspirus Langlade Hospital. He was 90 years old. He was born on October 10, 1931, in Hohenstein, East Prussia, a son of Fredrick and Emilie (Krause) Fuhrmannek.
He was raised in Germany and graduated from Darmstadt University with a degree in Engineering. He was an accomplished soccer player as a member of the Eintracht Frankfurt system and the German National team.
On January 1, 1957 he came to America being sponsored by the Lutheran Church of America settling in Worthington, Minnesota.
He married Shirley June Funk on May 14, 1960 in Worthington.
Gunter worked for Ping Golf designing their first set of golf clubs. He went on to create his own golf club manufacturing company - American Precision Golf - a company he operated until retirement in 1993. He was also an accomplished golfer playing in numerous state and national championships and The Carolina's Senior Long Drive Champion.
He was active at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Worthington and Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Southern Pines, North Carolina.
He moved to Antigo in July 2020 to be close to family.
Survivors include a daughter, Kristin (Eric) Swiertz, Antigo; a son, Curtis (Stephanie) Fuhrmannek, Dacula, Georgia; five grandchildren, Zachery Cooke, Rachel, Anna, Emily, and Sarah Fuhrmannek; a step-grandchild, Kaila Swiertz.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley who died February 22, 2010.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at 1 p.m. at Bradley Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Saturday from 12 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
