In loving memory of

Mildred J. Staas
February 20, 1937 - December 4, 2021

Mildred J. Staas "Joan" on December 4, 2021. Of Laurel Springs.

Beloved wife of Frederick Staas for 64 years. Devoted mother of the late Dennis Staas. Loving mother-in-law of Julia Staas. Cherished grandma of Victoria Staas. Dear sister of John McCaughrean (Sandra) and Ronald McCaughrean (Margaret). Dear sister-in-law of Lois Staas. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Born in Absecon, NJ, Joan and her family later moved to Bellmawr, NJ where she was raised. She always had fond memories of spending her summers with her grandparents and their marina in Absecon. Joan graduated from Haddon Heights High School in 1955. While in high school she met the love of her life, Frederick Staas. They later married on 7/7/57 at the Absecon Presbyterian Church.

She began her career in Banking shortly after high school but would later follow her passion and work in Healthcare where she became a Certified Medical Assistant - Administrative and Clinical (CMA-AC). She worked in Family Medicine with Dr. Vincent Palmisano for 10 years, followed by Plastic Surgery with Dr. John Krause for several years. She then joined Surgical Group of South Jersey (SGSJ) as their administrator. She worked for SGSJ for 30 years before retiring just shy of 78 years old.

In addition to her work, she was an active member of the community in her professional associations with Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), Medical Office Managers Society (MOMS) as well as in her church in the music and youth programs and as a leader in her granddaughter's Girl Scout Troop.

Joan was a special lady in every sense of the word. She was classy, graceful, elegant, yet tough and strong. She knew when to have fun and loved to be spontaneous. Always up for a ride to the shore on a moment's notice or a dinner and a show. She could be your best friend, your mentor, or your boss. Timing was everything. She was the best wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother to Fred, Dennis, Julia, and Victoria Staas. She was also a terrific sister, sister-in-law, and aunt. She was a great friend and colleague to many in this region. She loved her work and loved to take care of the community. The outpouring of love, support, and visits received in her final days by family, friends, and colleagues reflects how important she was to all of us. We love her dearly and will miss her in so many ways. Our lives are better by having known and loved her.

Special Thanks go out to Reginald Blaber, MD and James Gamble, MD for their care and guidance as well as to the entire medical team involved in Joan's care at Virtua Voorhees and Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes.
