In loving memory of

Kathleen "Katie" Anne Nelson
December 10, 1960 - December 11, 2021

Kathleen "Katie" Anne Nelson passed away on December 11, 2021, at her home in Ames, Iowa. A public visitation will be held on Thursday, December 16th, 2021, at the Family of Christ Lutheran Church; 10970 185th St. West, Lakeville, Minnesota 55044, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m.

Katie was born to William and Roberta Giblin on December 10, 1960, in Elmhurst, Illinois. She was raised and educated in the area, graduating with the class of 1978. Katie attended Iowa State where she met her husband of thirty-nine years, Joel Edward Nelson. Katie and Joel moved to Texas where Joel went to law school at the University of Houston, while she completed her master's in education. Katie and Joel moved to Minnesota to be closer to family. Shortly after, Katie started her Bachelor's in Nursing at the University of Minnesota. After working for several years at the VA hospital in Minneapolis, Katie completed both her masters in nursing and became an advanced practice nurse/clinical nurse specialist. Katie continued to work at the VA in many different capacities over the years.

Katie's two biggest loves were her family and Iowa State, which very much went hand in hand. She enjoyed all sorts of hobbies which included: sewing, creating crafts, baking, cooking, puzzles, going to Iowa State sporting events, and most of all spending time with her family.

She is preceded in death by her father, William Giblin, and her in-laws Melvin and Iona Nelson.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Joel Nelson; children, Cale, and McKinley "Mac" Nelson; her daughter in-law Annell Nelson, her grandchildren Griffin and Ariyah; her mother Roberta Giblin and her siblings, Sharon, Michael, Tom, William, Timothy, Shelia, Maggie, and Mary as well as a host of extended family and close friends.
