Elizabeth (Liz) Sletten, age 90, of Ames, Iowa passed away quietly in her sleep at North Ridge Village Assisted Living Community in Ames on December 11, 2021. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., December 17, 2021, at Bethesda Lutheran Church 1517 Northwestern Ave, Ames, IA 50010. Visitation will be before the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Bethesda.

Liz was born July 31, 1931, in Owatonna MN, the youngest daughter of Henry and Barbara Head. She graduated from Owatonna High School in 1949 where she was active in orchestra as a violinist. After high school, Elizabeth continued her education at the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1953 with a teaching degree. She moved to Faribault, MN and taught kindergarten. While teaching in Faribault, Liz met and later married John Sletten on June 21, 1958. The couple made their home in Northfield, MN where Liz was a mom and homemaker to their three children, Anne, Margit, and Lise. In 1969, the family moved to Ames. Liz was an active volunteer with the girls' school activities and during the 'college years', was a teacher aide at Willson-Beardshear school in Ames.

Liz was a creative seamstress, sewing lots of dresses and clothes for the girls; was very active at Bethesda where she sang in the choir, was on church council, worked on education committees, and enjoyed baking and planning for the Scandinavian coffee. She was also a member of the KC chapter of P.E.O. for over 50 years. Liz really enjoyed time with her family and friends, traveling--especially to Northern Minnesota; attending/watching Iowa State sporting events; and was a devoted supporter at Ames High School track meets.

Liz is survived by her daughters, Anne Sletten of Johnston, Margit (Doug) Ross of Johnston, and Lise McKillop (Jim) of Ames; her five grandchildren: Jennifer Ross of Minneapolis, MN, Brian Ross of Madison, WI, Sarah Ross of Chicago, IL, and Hannah and Halley Rollins of Ames; her sister, Barbara Dewey of Owatonna, MN and several nieces and nephews.

Liz was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, her husband John, and a son-in-law, Don Rollins. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Memorials may be directed to Bethesda Lutheran Church.

"So sorry to learn of the passing of your mother. Charlie and I lived next door to your mother and father for 6 1/2 years on Burnham Drive. Your parents were great neighbors and we shared lots of fun conversations. We visited your mother this summer in Ames, she called me on my birthday?..and I called her on her?s. She and your father were very dear people who made our stay in Ames special. Charlie and Chris Cott "
