Joseph Farris, age 93, went home to be with the Lord on December 31, 2021. He went peacefully surrounded by his beloved family. Joe was born on August 5, 1928 to Louis and Wadad Farris. Growing up, Joe was the eldest son and second born of 10 siblings- to which he loved each individually and wholeheartedly. When Joe was 23 years old he was drafted into the Korean War and would spend the next two years in the military. He traveled to Germany where he was a Staff Sergeant (T) 4. When he returned from the military Joe met and married his beloved Betty. They had three amazing children, Kenny, Lynnette and Michelle. He spent many of the next years building his own businesses, three car washes and Tires Galore. He worked alongside many of his brothers, friends, and son Ken with great success. In retirement, Joe was renamed "Papa" and was able to devote his time to all four of his grandchildren. He spent the summer holidays laughing with family, grilling shish kabob, and enjoying time on the lake at the Cottage. He also really enjoyed building massive puzzles, that he would glue together after he was done so they could be enjoyed by all forever. Joe was a loving husband, a wonderful father, a caring papa, and a dependable brother.. Joe was the gentlest of souls. He was kind to everyone and loved UNCONDITIONALLY. He was always the sweetest man in the room. He was an active member at Woodside Bible Church, with unwavering faith.
Joe is survived by his wife, Betty, his children, Kenneth, Lynnette (Brian) and Michelle, his grandchildren, Lyndsie, Heather, Leah, and Joey, sisters, Freda (the late Badie Mallouk), Louisa, Linda, Lois; brothers, Sam, Fred (Tina), Bob (Roseanne) and many other nieces, nephews, and friends. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Wadad, sister Betty, brother John, and sister Alice. Funeral will be Thursday, January 6, with a Gathering at 10am until time of Service at 11am, at Woodside Bible Church- Troy Campus, 6600 Rochester Road, Troy, 48045. Per the families request, please wear a mask upon entering Woodside Bible Church. Also, Per the families request if you will be attending the committal service at Great Lakes National Cemetery, please wear a mask.
