Edith H. Brechter
March 4, 1927 - January 3, 2022
Edith H. Brechter, 94, of Port Ewen, NY, passed away Monday, January 3rd, 2022, at Ten Broeck Commons in Lake Katrine. She was born March 4, 1927, in Teaneck, NJ, to the late Elias and Frances (Roese) Hinman. She was the wife of the late Frederick H Brechter, Jr., he died on August 8th, 2018.
Edith was a graduate of Teaneck High School, Class of 1945. Edith married her loving husband Fred on February 12, 1949 and they raised three wonderful children. After the children were in school, Edith worked at various places as a secretary, until she retired from SUNY Oneonta. Following retirement, Edith and Fred moved to Port Ewen.
Edith was a faithful member of the Reformed Church, and currently a member of the St. Remy Reformed Church. Edith enjoyed church activities, singing in the church choir, church socials, golfing with Fred, roller skating, spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren, reading mystery novels and crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her children, Steven Brechter and his wife Christina Madriguera of New Albany, OH, Rev. Dr. David M Brechter and his wife Mary of Port Ewen, and Carol Brechter of Ulster Park, four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by her brothers Robert and Kenneth Hinman.
The memorial service will be Saturday, January 15th, 11 am at the St. Remy Reformed Church, 534 Main St., St. Remy. Inurnment will follow in St. Remy Rural Cemetery. Until the last couple of years I spoke to both of them via phone conversations we shared. They enjoyed hearing about my life......both the good and bad. Their words of wisdom and love always helped.
