Samuel C. Ruey Jr
Canton-Samuel C. Ruey Jr, 59, passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2022 at his residence after a 2-year battle with cancer.
He was born on March 25, 1962 in Peoria to Samuel C. and Sherrill (Fuller) Ruey Sr. They survive.
Also surviving are his son Samuel C. Ruey III, Samuel III's mother, Stacy Phillips, grandson, Sylas, brothers, Russell (Stephanie) Ruey of Canton, Aaron Ruey of Canton, nieces, Sasha, Mattie, Taylor (Ryan) Cross and nephew Culton.
When Sam was 9 years old his parents bought him a 20-gauge single shot. They took him down to Vorhee's Duck Club and he killed 3 Blue Wing Teal. From that time on he was with his dad hunting.
In addition to hunting, Sam had an unbelievable passion for baseball and football. He was an avid St Louis Cardinal and Minnesota Viking fan. He coached his son's t-ball and little league teams. He also coached Dunlap for the Kickapoo Valley League. They won several years in a row.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and Ducks Unlimited.
Cremation rites have been accorded through the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at the Canton Elk's Lodge #626 from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 pm.
Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society.
