In loving memory of

John Holt Kafes
December 20, 1939 - January 4, 2022

John Holt Kafes, 82, of Flourtown, PA, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at Jefferson Health, Abington Hospital.

Born at home in Trenton, NJ, he was a twin son of the late William George Kafes and Gena Bird (nee Owen) Kafes.

John graduated from Monmouth University in New Jersey and worked in the publishing industry until his retirement about 20 years ago.

He was a longtime member and trustee of the Historical Society of Fort Washington, a member of the Friends of Fort Washington State Park, and a local poll election volunteer in Whitemarsh Township, PA.

John was a clock and antique aficionado, enjoyed being with and holding conversations with family and friends, listening to NPR and classical music, and spending time outside. Prior to the onset of his blindness, he was more involved in his community, including as a member of the Whitemarsh Township Shade Tree Commission. John remained actively involved as much as he could.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jacquelyn Mary Steck Kafes; children Georgena Steck Kafes Kelly (Patrick Kelly) of Yardley, PA, and William Welty Kafes (Bridget Yannes Kafes) of Riverton, NJ; and two grandsons: Jackson Holt Kelly and Owen Pierce Kelly. John is also survived by his brothers William Owen Kafes (Mary) of Williamsburg, VA, and Frederick Wilson Kafes (Mary) of Westmont, NJ; and by numerous nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Richard Kafes.

Family and friends are invited to the Anton B. Urban Funeral Home at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 2, 2022, 1111 S. Bethlehem Pike, Ambler, PA. John's memorial service will begin at 11:00 AM. Sign up on John's Obituary page to "Get Notifications" for service reminders.
