Leon Iwanoski
WAYLAND, Iowa -- Leon Iwanoski, 86, of Wayland, died on Sunday, July 31, 2011, at the Parkview Home in Wayland.
Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at the Bethel Mennonite Church, Wayland, Iowa. Pastor Herb Yoder will officiate the service. Burial will take place in Bethel Mennonite Cemetery, Wayland.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at the church. A memorial in Leon Iwanoski's name has been established to the Bethel Mennonite Church.
Leon was born on January 29, 1924, in Belarus, Russia, the son of Waldimer and Luba Iwanov. He was united in marriage to Katharyn Dashkiewich in Altenmorkt, Germany. Leon and Katharyn moved to Wayland in 1950.
Leon was a member of Bethel Mennonite Church.
He worked for the U.S. Army from 1947-49 as a guard for a displaced persons camp in Stuttgart, Germany. Following his move to the U.S. he worked for AAA Mechanical Contractors in Iowa City as a mason, carpenter and finish worker for 20 years.
Survivors include sons, Wesley Iwanowski of Des Moines, and Victor Iwanowski and wife, Janet, of Muscatine; three grandchildren; a brother, Vasiliy Iwanov of Belarus; and two sisters, Olga Krechik and Zina Krasovskaya of Belarus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and grandson, Dustin.
