Marvin Leroy Gunder was born March 16, 1940 at home in Great Bend Township, Cottonwood County to Leslie and Helka (Hoffrogge) Gunder. He was baptized and confirmed on March 9, 1965 at American Lutheran Church in Windom, Minnesota. Marvin was married to Laurene Tscherter on June 23rd, 1961 in Sioux Falls, SD. Born to this union was one child, Christine Lynn.
Marvin and Laurene made their home in Windom, Minnesota, living at Fish Lake. He worked as a truck driver his entire career, enjoying his travels all over the country. He and Laurene also owned and operated the Bergen Bar in Bergen, MN for 9 years. Following their retirement, they moved to Whittemore, Iowa in January, 2010.
Marvin's pride and joy was his four grandchildren. He enjoyed living at Fish Lake, telling truck stories, and having coffee with the Pitchers group. He was a past member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom and the Windom Eagles Club and presently a member of First Lutheran Church in Algona.
Marvin L. Gunder died Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, at the age of 71.
He is survived by his wife Laurene Gunder of Whittemore; a daughter, Christine Reding and her husband Steve of Cylinder; four grandchildren, Jessica Gaukler and her husband Nate of Belgrade, MT, Marisa Merkel and her husband Jared of Manning, Melody Reding of Fort Dodge, and Anthony Reding of Cylinder; three sisters, Sharon Larson of Lakefield, MN, Vicky Bixby of Windom, MN, and LuAnn Carlson and her husband Greg of Windom, MN; one brother, Raymond Gunder and his wife Tina of Kent, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Norrene and Arlene Gunder; and one brother, Norman Gunder.
