George David Muzzey
May 3, 1938 - January 21, 2022



George David Muzzey, age 83, of Ames, was called home to Heaven on January 21, 2022, at Israel Family Hospice House.

He was born on May 3, 1938 in Potlatch, Idaho, to George and Lucille (Harris) Muzzey. He graduated from West High School in Waterloo in 1956. He married Patricia Jean Franklin on September 5, 1958. He graduated from Faith Bible College in Ankeny in 1968, with a degree in Christian Education and Bible Theology. He was ordained as a Pastor in 1968, in Creston, Iowa. He served as Director of Christian Education and interim Pastor in Baptist Churches in Iowa, New York and Ohio from 1968 to 1980.

In 1980, George traveled to Jamaica for six months on a short-term missionary trip to teach in a Bible College. He preached in the local churches on Sundays. When he returned to the states, he opened a pool, spa and lighting company in Colorado. George then moved to Almogordo, New Mexico in 1992 and served as interim pastor and teacher for 7 years. He moved to Ames, Iowa, in 1999 and he and Patty served as Regional Managers for Retirement Apartments until their own retirement in 2018.

George in survived by his wife, Patty Muzzey; daughter, Debra Carr of Thor, Iowa; daughter, Cheryl (Rickey) Thompson of Ames, Iowa; son, David (Sandy) Muzzey of Eagle Grove, Iowa; sister, Marguerite (Gary) Gonnerman of Lyle, Minnesota; sister, Shirley Peterson of Ames, Iowa; and brother, Paul (Leila) Muzzey of Brookings, South Dakota. He enjoyed spending time with his 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and his little Bishon dog, Skamp.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lucille Muzzey; mother -in-law, Averil Lashly; brother-in-law, Roger Peterson; grandson, Eric Thompson; granddaughter, Kaitlin Carr.

Memorials may be directed to: Heartland Baptist Church or Israel Family Hospice House.

A private interment will be held Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at the Ames Municipal Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Heartland Baptist Church in Ames, Iowa on February 25. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. with the memorial following the visitation at 3:00 p.m.
