Virginia was born on November 1, 1928, to Silvus and Claudena (Carter) DuToit in Garwin, Iowa. She attended school in Garwin until middle school when her family relocated to Marshalltown in 1943. Virginia graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1946. While attending a dance in Forest Park, she met Earl "Tony" Edel in the corner of the dance floor. Not long after, the impressive dance couple got married on November 22, 1948, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marshalltown. They began farming, working side by side, and raising their family together outside of Zearing. In 1989 the couple moved to Zearing and retired from farming in 1994. Virginia was a member of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church where she sang in the choir and volunteered countless hours with the St. Gabriel's Rosary Society, A.C.C.W., making lap robes and blankets and rolling bandages to help soldiers and the less fortunate in other countries. She also belonged to Samuel Reid American Legion Auxillary, Zearing Quilting Club, Zearing Heritage Room, and Card Club with friends. Virginia was always very active, and her Church and family always came first. She also enjoyed traveling, annual Leech Lake family vacations, fishing with Tony, sewing, watching and feeding birds, flower and vegetable gardening, canning garden goodies, and landscaping. She enjoyed meeting up with Tony's Army buddies every year, and playing the organ for nursing home residents. Virginia was a wonderful cook, and enjoyed sharing the great food she made with family and friends.

Those left to cherish her loving memory are her children Merle (Stephanie) Edel, Cheryl Edel, and Larry (Amy) Edel; son-in-law Steve Mannetter; grandchildren Jordan Edel, Chad (AmandaJo) Edel, Michelle (Jason) Zoske, Melissa (Hank) Norem, Sarah (Zach) Allison, Matthew Grasty, Logan (Kate) Edel, and Colby (Ashlee) Edel; great-grandchildren Ethan Edel, Evelyn Edel, Jessica (Garrett) Underwood, Zachariah Zoske, Benjamin Zoske, Ava Norem, Claire Norem, Katie Allison, Chloe Allison, William Allison, Ryan Grasty, Andrew "AJ" Grasty, Peyton Edel, Lincoln Edel, Isabelle Edel, and Emrie Edel; great-great- grandchildren Violet Underwood, and Eva Underwood; nephews Gary Counasse, Carl Counasse, and Barry Edel; and many more very much loved relatives and close friends.

"So sorry to hear of Virginia's passing she will be missed by all who knew her. I grew up knowing her well as her family and mine were close friends for as long as I can remember.I know of her great cooking skills because I ate at her table often especially when baling hay. If anyone ever left her table hungry it was their own fault. God bless the family. Steve Welch "
