Dennis James Monahan was born February 28, 1953 in Mason City, son of Martin and Evelyn (Torkelson) Monahan. He grew up in Mason City graduating from Mason City High School in 1972.
Denny worked for the Chevrolet Dealer in Mason City for a few years following high school. He was married to Carol Muller on June 21, 1975 at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. He then worked at Universal Manufacturing until 2008 when he retired due to health reasons.
Denny had a "heart of gold" and he would help anyone in need. He loved his family especially his grandchildren. He was an avid fan of the Saturday night races at the fairgrounds. He also enjoyed fishing, walking, going to the casino, tinkering, and playing cards with his family.
Dennis J. Monahan lost his courageous battle on Monday, September 26, 2011 at the age of 58.
He is survived by four daughters, Lisa Monahan-Lestrud and her husband Troy of Algona, Angela Kaltschnee of Algona, Michele Thyne and her husband Leo of Hudson, NH, and Katie Heinen and her husband Kevin of Algona; and 10 grandchildren, Taylor, Matthew, Shaye, Cameron, Joshua, Brooklyn, Andrew, Jenna, Caleb, and Caden. He is also survived by 8 brothers and sisters, Kathy (Denny) Birke of Jeffersonville, IN, Annie Billings of Clear Lake, Tommy Monahan of Clear Lake, Johnny (Janice) Monahan of Montrose, MN, Ellen (Rick) Alexander of Perkins, OK, Ronald Monahan of Clear Lake, Brian Monahan of Louisville, KY, and Kevin (Tammy) Monahan of Ligonier, IN; a special mother-in-law, Eileen Muller of Algona; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Tanner Monahan-Bode; and his father-in-law, Eugene Muller.

"As the obituary stated, Denny did have a heart of gold. I had the pleasure of working with him at Universal from 2005 until his retirement. He was an outstanding and hard working employee. Our sympathies and prayers go out to his family. Denny will be missed."
