Donita Joy Cummings
October 3, 1969 - February 15, 2022

Donita Joy Cummings, age 52 of Vandalia, passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at her home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Vandalia Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Vandalia Cemetery. The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 9:30 am until service time. Memorials may be directed to the family and condolences may be left at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com


The daughter of Delbert and Donna (Beyers) Russell, Joy was born on October 3, 1969 in Missouri. Joy graduated from Brookfield High School in 1987 and went on to attend cosmetology school in Kirksville. On June 2, 1990, she was united in marriage to Michael Boyd Cummings in Brookfield. Joy was a member of the Vandalia Church of Christ and enjoyed sewing and quilting.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Michael; parents, Delbert and Donna Russell; her three children, Morgan Cummings, Drew (Miriam McDonough) Cummings and Casady Cummings and her brothers, Rick Russell, Darrell (Christina) Russell and Jason (Stephany) Russell.

"Joy and I go back to when we were In diapers! Our families have always been close. Ironically she ended up marrying a close friend of ours from PA who I lived down the street from for years! My heart broke when I heard she was ill. My fond memories of chasing fire flies playing tag and hide and seek outside the church building when we were kids and always having the biggest highs when we saw each other!
