"Hello all,
I'm sorry to hear about the loss of Art. I only heard yesterday (on Saturday), and really wanted to make the 3.5-hour trip from Philadelphia area, but a variety of things prevented me from that today. I was hoping to pay my respects to Art's family, but also see Jamie, Jody, and Nina again for the first time since we were having family reunions at the funeral parlor back in the 80's.
As a frame of reference, the Menninger family was related on Artie's mother's side, which was a very small family. As the daughter and only child of Uncle Sepp and Tante Rosa, the only living relatives in the US were the Menninger family, which consists of me (Mike), my brother Paul, my late father, Paul, and my mother Mona. All of us moved out of Kingston more than 20 years ago. With both of my parents as only children, I have no aunts, uncles, or first cousins, and the only family we had were the DeGasperis family, and we both lived in the Kingston area. Paul, Sr and Anita were fairly close in their 20's until they each married and raised families.
Of the Menninger family, my mother and Anita got to know each other well until Anita contracted cancer, which was a shame. I am Jamie's age and Paul is Art's age, and we would get together as families when they lived near Wiltwyck GC. Between my brother and I, I'm the one who got to know the family the best, as I used to work at Governor Clinton Market every summer when I was home from college in the early 80's. Obviously during those years, I got to know John, Jody, Jamie, and Art fairly well. Each of the boys were very different, but Artie was probably the most outgoing and fun. Art always had a smile and a terrific sense of humor, but I also remember it as being a bit on the mischievous side. Maybe that's why I liked him so much!
So, not only am I saddened to hear of the loss of Artie, I am also very disappointed that I couldn't make the trip to pay my respects to the family, and to see my only 2nd cousin family in the US that I also grew up to to know. RIP, Artie, and God bless the entire DeGasperis family. Hello to Jody, Jamie, and Nina.
